Webbing: Do you want cotton, Nylon or Polypropylene?
Do you want cotton, nylon or polypropylene? We make leashes, lungelines, side reins and collars from all three materials, so which is better?
That depends on which material you prefer to handle and what you plan to do with the product you are buying.
The advantages of cotton - This natural plant material has a soft feel in the hand. In the event of an animal pulling the leash or lungeline out of your hand, there is no "rope burn" like you get from nylon or poly webbing. This is why tack manufacturers favor cotton webbing for their lungelines. Cotton dog leashes cut down on hand injuries for dog owners, as well, and cotton collars are advantageous for dogs who are allergic to nylon.
The advantages of nylon - So, why buy nylon? While it can give you a rope burn, this man made material is strong, long lasting, and not likely to break. If your horse or dog tends to break your equipment you may want to choose this webbing. Nylon webbing is also slightly heavier and more flexible than cotton webbing, which means that it will bag or droop slightly when used for side reins. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the behavior of your horse.
The advantages of Polypropylene - Poly webbing is a man made material with the strength of nylon at an economical price. It is long lasting but lighter in weight than both nylon and cotton. Like nylon it can rope burn your hands and it is somewhat slippery as compared to cotton. Our customers who order products in poly webbing are buying it because it feels lighter and for the economical price.
What is most popular? After 16 years of manufacturing and selling, we can tell you that most customers, when given a choice, prefer their equine and canine equipment made from Cotton!
Now, you get to decide for yourself.
